Description

This quick and easy Teriyaki Chicken recipe is packed with sweet and savory flavors. Made with juicy chicken thighs or breasts coated in a sticky homemade teriyaki sauce, it’s perfect for busy weeknights. Serve it with steamed rice and veggies for a complete meal ready in 30 minutes!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 500 g (1 lb) chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey (or brown sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 2 tablespoons mirin (optional, for added sweetness)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)
  • Sesame seeds and chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the teriyaki sauce:

    • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, mirin (if using), garlic, and ginger. Set aside.
  2. Cook the chicken:

    • Heat sesame oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.
    • Add the chicken pieces and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and cooked through.
  3. Add the sauce:

    • Pour the teriyaki sauce into the pan with the chicken. Stir well to coat the chicken evenly.
    • Simmer for 3-4 minutes until the sauce begins to thicken.
  4. Thicken the sauce:

    • Stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce becomes glossy and coats the chicken nicely.
  5. Serve:

    • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
    • Serve over steamed rice with sautéed vegetables like broccoli, carrots, or bell peppers.

Notes

  • Use chicken thighs for extra juiciness or breasts for a leaner version.
  • Add a little sriracha or chili flakes if you like it spicy.
  • You can substitute maple syrup for honey for a slightly different flavor.
