- 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups (315 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt

- Colored sugar
- Royal icing or frosting
Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat & Prep
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2️⃣ Make the Dough
- In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until fluffy (2 minutes).
- Mix in egg and vanilla extract until combined.
- In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
3️⃣ Shape the Cookies
- Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on the baking sheet.
- Flatten slightly with a fork or bottom of a glass.
- Add sprinkles or colored sugar if desired.
4️⃣ Bake & Cool
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
- Let cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
5️⃣ Decorate & Serve
- Enjoy plain or decorate with icing, frosting, or more sprinkles!

🍋 Lemon Sugar Cookies? Add 1 teaspoon lemon zest.
🍪 Chewy vs. Crispy? For chewier cookies, bake 10 minutes. For crispier cookies, bake 12-13 minutes.
