Description

These easy matcha cookies are soft, chewy, and loaded with that signature green tea flavor. They’re a fun twist on classic sugar cookies and come together quickly with simple ingredients. Perfect for matcha lovers or anyone looking to try something new!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon matcha powder (culinary grade)

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • Optional: white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate (1/2 cup)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.

  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, matcha powder, baking soda, and salt.

  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

  6. If using, fold in white chocolate chips or chunks.

  7. Scoop dough into 1½ tablespoon-sized balls and place on the baking sheet about 2 inches apart.

  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are just set and centers are still soft.

  9. Let cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a stronger matcha flavor, you can add up to 1½ tablespoons of matcha powder.

  • Don’t overbake — cookies will continue to firm up as they cool.

  • Store in an airtight container at room temp for up to 5 days.
