Description

Easy Mashed Potatoes are creamy, fluffy, and buttery, made with just a few simple ingredients. Perfect as a comforting side dish for any meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 pounds russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk (more as needed)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Place cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil over high heat.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until potatoes are very tender.
  3. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
  4. Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy, adding more milk if needed to reach desired consistency.
  5. Adjust seasoning to taste and serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra creaminess, add a dollop of sour cream or cream cheese.
  • Use a potato masher, hand mixer, or ricer depending on your preferred texture.
  • Mashed potatoes can be made ahead and reheated with a splash of milk.
