- 2 pounds russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup milk (more as needed)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Place cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil over high heat.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until potatoes are very tender.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
- Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy, adding more milk if needed to reach desired consistency.
- Adjust seasoning to taste and serve warm.
Notes
- For extra creaminess, add a dollop of sour cream or cream cheese.
- Use a potato masher, hand mixer, or ricer depending on your preferred texture.
