Description

This Easy Green Bean Casserole is a classic side dish perfect for holiday meals or weeknight dinners. Made with tender green beans, creamy sauce, and crispy fried onions, it’s a comforting and flavorful favorite.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups fresh green beans (or 2 cans, 14.5 oz each, drained)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp soy sauce (optional, for added depth)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions (store-bought)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Green Beans:

  1. For Fresh Green Beans: Trim the ends and blanch in boiling water for 4-5 minutes until tender-crisp. Drain and set aside.
  2. For Canned Green Beans: Drain and rinse under cold water.

2. Make the Sauce:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce (if using), and black pepper until smooth.

3. Assemble the Casserole:

  1. Add the green beans to the sauce mixture and toss to coat evenly.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle 1 cup of crispy fried onions evenly over the top.

4. Bake:

  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbling and the onions are golden brown.
  2. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of crispy fried onions on top. Bake for an additional 5 minutes.

5. Serve:

  1. Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy as a side dish for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any cozy dinner.

Notes

  • Make Ahead: Assemble the casserole up to step 3, cover, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Add the onions just before baking.
  • Custom Add-Ins: Add cooked mushrooms, bacon bits, or shredded cheese for extra flavor.
  • Vegetarian Version: Use a vegetarian cream of mushroom soup or make your own.
