- 12 oz (340g) spaghetti or your favorite pasta
- 4 tablespoons (60g) unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1/4 cup (60ml) pasta water (reserved)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup (25g) grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
1. Cook the Pasta:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/4 cup of pasta water before draining.
2. Make the Garlic Butter Sauce:
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant and slightly golden (but not browned).
- Stir in the red pepper flakes, if using.
3. Combine the Pasta and Sauce:
- Add the drained pasta to the skillet with the garlic butter sauce.
- Toss to coat, adding a splash of the reserved pasta water to loosen the sauce if needed.
4. Season and Serve:
- Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
- Serve warm, topped with Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
- For a heartier dish, add cooked chicken, shrimp, or sautéed vegetables.
- Use whole wheat or gluten-free pasta as a substitute if preferred.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
