For the truffles:
- 1 box (18-20 oz/500 g) of brownie mix (plus ingredients listed on the package)
- 2–3 tablespoons cream cheese or frosting (optional, for binding if needed)
For the coating:
- 200 g (7 oz) semi-sweet or dark chocolate, melted
- Sprinkles, chopped nuts, cocoa powder, or crushed cookies (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare the Brownies:
- Bake the brownies:
- Prepare and bake the brownies according to the package instructions. Let them cool completely.
- Crumble the brownies:
- Once cooled, crumble the brownies into a large mixing bowl. The texture should be moist and crumbly.
- Add binding (if needed):
- If the brownie crumbs are too dry to hold together, mix in cream cheese or frosting, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the mixture can easily be rolled into balls.
Shape the Truffles:
- Roll into balls:
- Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the brownie mixture and roll it between your hands to form a ball. Repeat until all the mixture is used.
- Chill the truffles:
- Place the brownie balls on a parchment-lined tray and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes, or until firm.
Coat the Truffles:
- Melt the chocolate:
- Melt the semi-sweet or dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until smooth.
- Dip the truffles:
- Using a fork or a truffle-dipping tool, dip each brownie ball into the melted chocolate, letting the excess drip off. Place back on the parchment-lined tray.
- Garnish (optional):
- While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle with your chosen toppings, such as sprinkles, nuts, or crushed cookies.
Set and Serve:
- Let the coating set:
- Allow the truffles to set at room temperature or refrigerate until the chocolate hardens.
- Serve:
- Transfer the truffles to a serving platter or store in an airtight container.
Notes
- You can use homemade brownies instead of a box mix if you prefer. Ensure they are dense and fudgy.
- Experiment with different coatings, such as white chocolate, milk chocolate, or drizzled chocolate for a decorative effect.
- Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
