Description

Dirt Cake is a fun and delicious no-bake dessert made with layers of crushed chocolate cookies, creamy pudding, and whipped topping. It’s a nostalgic treat that’s perfect for parties, potlucks, or just because! Garnish with gummy worms for a playful presentation.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the cookie “dirt”:

  • 300 g (10 oz) chocolate sandwich cookies (e.g., Oreo), crushed

For the filling:

  • 1 package (225 g / 8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (480 ml) milk
  • 2 packages (90 g / 3.4 oz each) instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 container (225 g / 8 oz) whipped topping (e.g., Cool Whip), thawed

For garnish:

  • Gummy worms (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings or sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cookie “dirt”:
    • Place the chocolate cookies in a food processor and pulse until finely crushed. Set aside.
  2. Make the pudding mixture:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the milk and vanilla pudding mix until thickened. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the cream cheese mixture:
    • In another bowl, beat the cream cheese with the sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
    • Fold in the whipped topping until well combined.
  4. Combine the filling:
    • Gently fold the pudding mixture into the cream cheese mixture until fully incorporated and smooth.
  5. Assemble the dirt cake:
    • In a trifle dish, 9×13-inch pan, or individual cups, layer the crushed cookies and the pudding mixture. Start with a layer of crushed cookies, followed by a layer of pudding mixture. Repeat until all ingredients are used, ending with a cookie layer on top.
  6. Decorate and chill:
    • Garnish with gummy worms, chocolate shavings, or sprinkles.
    • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

  • For a chocolatey twist, use chocolate pudding instead of vanilla.
  • For added crunch, layer in some chopped chocolate bars or candy pieces.
  • Dirt cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
