Description
This dark chocolate hot chocolate is thick, creamy, and made with real dark chocolate for a bold, rich flavor. It’s way better than store-bought mixes and only takes a few minutes to make. Perfect for warming up on a cold day or satisfying a chocolate craving.
Ingredients
-
2 cups whole milk (or any milk of choice)
-
1/2 cup heavy cream (optional, for extra creaminess)
-
3 oz dark chocolate (60-70% cacao), chopped
-
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
-
2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
Pinch of salt
Optional toppings: whipped cream, marshmallows, shaved chocolate, or a dash of cinnamon
Instructions
-
In a small saucepan, heat milk and cream over medium heat until warm, but not boiling.
-
Add chopped dark chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Whisk constantly until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.
-
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
-
Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
-
Pour into mugs and top with your favorite toppings.
Notes
-
For a vegan version, use plant-based milk and skip the cream or use coconut cream.
-
Try adding a splash of peppermint extract or a pinch of cayenne for a fun twist.
-
If you like it extra thick, let it simmer a bit longer or add a teaspoon of cornstarch mixed with a little milk.
