Description

Crispy Honey-Garlic Tofu is a delicious vegetarian dish featuring golden, pan-fried tofu coated in a sticky, sweet, and savory honey-garlic sauce. It’s perfect served over rice or noodles for a satisfying plant-based meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • For the Sauce:
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey (or maple syrup for vegan option)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tbsp water + 1 tsp cornstarch (for slurry)
  • Sesame seeds and green onions, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu for at least 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut into 1-inch cubes.
  2. Toss tofu cubes in cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add tofu and fry until all sides are golden and crispy, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add garlic and ginger. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Add soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  6. Mix cornstarch slurry and pour into the sauce. Cook until thickened, about 1-2 minutes.
  7. Return tofu to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve hot over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, bake or air-fry the tofu before adding to the sauce.
  • Use maple syrup or agave to make it fully vegan.
  • Add steamed broccoli or snap peas for extra veggies.
