Ingredients

Scale

2 large onions

1¼ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 egg

1 cup milk

¾ cup dry bread crumbs

Oil for frying

Instructions

Prepare the Onions:

Peel the onions and slice them into ¼-inch thick rings.

Separate the slices into individual rings and set aside.

Make the Batter:

In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup of the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Dip the onion rings into the flour mixture to coat; set aside.

Whisk the egg and milk into the flour mixture until smooth.

Bread the Onion Rings:

Spread the bread crumbs on a plate.

Dip the floured rings into the batter to coat, then place them on a wire rack to drain excess batter.

Dredge the rings in bread crumbs until evenly coated.

Fry the Onion Rings:

Heat oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 365°F (185°C).

Fry the onion rings a few at a time for 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden brown.

Remove and drain on paper towels.

Notes

For extra crispiness, double-dip the onion rings by repeating the batter and bread crumb steps.

Serve immediately for the best texture.

Pair with dipping sauces like ketchup, ranch, or spicy mayo.
