Serves 4
- For the apple fries:
- 3 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced into wedges
- 1/2 cup (60 g) all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (100 g) breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
- 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- For the dipping sauce:
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt
- A sprinkle of cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the apple slices:
- Peel and core the apples, then slice them into evenly sized wedges. Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
- Set up the breading stations:
- Place the flour in one shallow bowl.
- In a second shallow bowl, beat the eggs.
- In a third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, sugar, and cinnamon.
- Coat the apple slices:
- Dip each apple wedge into the flour, shaking off the excess.
- Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, ensuring it is fully coated.
- Finally, press the apple wedge into the breadcrumb mixture, coating it completely. Repeat with all apple slices.
- Air fry the apple fries:
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
- Arrange the coated apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
- Air fry for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve:
- Serve the apple fries warm with caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping. Sprinkle with extra cinnamon if desired.
Notes
- Use a firm apple variety like Granny Smith for a tart flavor or Honeycrisp for a sweeter taste.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute flour and breadcrumbs with almond flour and gluten-free breadcrumbs.
- Adjust the sweetness by using less sugar in the breading mixture or omitting it entirely.
