Description

Creamy garlic prawns are a decadent and flavorful dish featuring succulent prawns in a rich, garlicky cream sauce. Perfect as a main course or served over rice, pasta, or with crusty bread for dipping.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb (500g) raw prawns/shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable stock
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Prawns:
    • Pat the prawns dry with paper towels. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  2. Cook the Prawns:
    • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and melt. Sauté the prawns for 1–2 minutes per side, until they turn pink and are just cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the Garlic Sauce:
    • In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Pour in the chicken stock, stirring to scrape up any bits from the pan.
    • Reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Add the Prawns:
    • Return the prawns to the skillet. Stir in the lemon juice and paprika (if using). Simmer for 2–3 minutes, allowing the prawns to warm through and absorb the flavors.
  5. Serve and Garnish:
    • Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve immediately over rice, pasta, or with crusty bread.

Notes

  • For added spice, stir in a pinch of red pepper flakes or cayenne.
  • Substitute Parmesan with Pecorino Romano for a sharper flavor.
  • To make it dairy-free, replace butter with olive oil and cream with coconut milk.
