Description

Creamy Asiago Chicken is a rich and flavorful dish featuring tender chicken breasts smothered in a creamy, garlicky Asiago cheese sauce. This restaurant-quality meal is perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions, and pairs wonderfully with pasta, rice, or crusty bread.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup (30 g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) chicken broth
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) grated Asiago cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for a hint of spice)
  • Fresh parsley or basil, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken:
    • Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides. Lightly coat them in flour, shaking off any excess.
  2. Cook the chicken:
    • Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C). Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the sauce:
    • In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the minced garlic. Sauté for 30 seconds, or until fragrant.
    • Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
    • Stir in the heavy cream, Asiago cheese, thyme, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Simmer for 3–4 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Combine chicken and sauce:
    • Return the chicken to the skillet, spooning the sauce over the top. Simmer for 2–3 minutes to warm the chicken and meld the flavors.
  5. Serve:
    • Garnish with fresh parsley or basil and serve hot over pasta, rice, or alongside steamed vegetables.

Notes

  • Substitute Parmesan or Romano cheese for Asiago if preferred.
  • For a lower-calorie version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms or spinach to the sauce for extra flavor and texture.
