Description

Creamed Spinach is a rich and creamy classic side dish made with tender spinach leaves simmered in a flavorful garlic-infused cream sauce with Parmesan cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 10 oz fresh spinach, roughly chopped (or frozen spinach, thawed and drained)

Instructions

  1. Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  2. Add garlic and nutmeg (if using), and sauté for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Stir in heavy cream and cream cheese. Cook until the cream cheese melts and the mixture is smooth, about 2 minutes.
  4. Add Parmesan cheese and stir until melted and incorporated.
  5. Gradually add spinach, stirring until wilted and well-coated in the sauce. Cook for 2–3 minutes.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm as a side dish.

Notes

  • Use frozen spinach for convenience, but be sure to squeeze out excess moisture.
  • Adjust the thickness of the sauce by adding more cream or cheese as needed.
  • Pairs well with steak, chicken, or seafood entrees.
