Description
Creamed Spinach is a rich and creamy classic side dish made with tender spinach leaves simmered in a flavorful garlic-infused cream sauce with Parmesan cheese.

- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup cream cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 10 oz fresh spinach, roughly chopped (or frozen spinach, thawed and drained)
Instructions
- Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Add garlic and nutmeg (if using), and sauté for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in heavy cream and cream cheese. Cook until the cream cheese melts and the mixture is smooth, about 2 minutes.
- Add Parmesan cheese and stir until melted and incorporated.
- Gradually add spinach, stirring until wilted and well-coated in the sauce. Cook for 2–3 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm as a side dish.
Notes
- Use frozen spinach for convenience, but be sure to squeeze out excess moisture.
- Adjust the thickness of the sauce by adding more cream or cheese as needed.
- Pairs well with steak, chicken, or seafood entrees.
