Scale
- 1 sleeve saltine crackers (about 40 crackers)
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup holiday sprinkles or crushed candy canes
Instructions
- Prepare the pan:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a 9×13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil, ensuring it overlaps the edges. Lightly grease with cooking spray.
- Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet, covering the entire surface.
- Make the caramel:
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir until combined. Bring to a boil and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and turns a rich caramel color.
- Pour the caramel:
- Carefully pour the hot caramel over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula to coat all the crackers.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbly. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
- Add the chocolate:
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot caramel. Let them sit for 2-3 minutes to melt, then spread the chocolate into a smooth layer using a spatula.
- Decorate:
- Immediately top with holiday sprinkles or crushed candy canes for a festive touch.
- Cool and break:
- Allow the candy to cool completely at room temperature, or place it in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours to set. Once hardened, break it into pieces and serve.
Notes
- Substitute saltines with graham crackers or Ritz crackers for a different flavor.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge for up to a week.
