- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 3 cups mashed potatoes (prepared in advance)
- 2 tablespoons butter (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, and carrots. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
- Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes until thickened.
- Stir in frozen peas and cook for 2 more minutes.
- Transfer beef mixture to a baking dish. Spread mashed potatoes evenly on top.
- Dot the top with butter.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden and the filling is bubbling.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or lamb.
- Make it ahead and refrigerate, then bake when ready to serve.
- Top with shredded cheese before baking for extra richness.
