Description

Comeback Sauce is a creamy, tangy, and slightly spicy Southern condiment that pairs perfectly with fries, burgers, chicken tenders, or as a salad dressing. Originating in Mississippi, it’s called “comeback” because once you try it, you’ll keep coming back for more!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise

  • 1/4 cup ketchup

  • 1/4 cup chili sauce (like Heinz)

  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (like Tabasco, or to taste)

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • Optional: pinch of cayenne pepper (for extra heat)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together all ingredients until smooth and well blended.

  2. Taste and adjust seasoning—add more hot sauce or lemon juice if desired.

  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to let the flavors meld.

  4. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • This sauce thickens and improves in flavor as it sits.

  • Great as a dip for fries, onion rings, or chicken tenders, or spread on sandwiches and burgers.

  • For a smokier flavor, swap in smoked paprika or use chipotle chili sauce.
