Description

This Classic House Salad is crisp, colorful, and super easy to make. With a mix of fresh greens, veggies, and a simple vinaigrette, it’s the perfect everyday salad to serve alongside any main dish or enjoy on its own for a light bite.


Ingredients

For the Salad:

  • 6 cups mixed lettuce (romaine, iceberg, and leaf lettuce)

  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

  • 1 cucumber, sliced

  • 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced

  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots

  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese

  • 1/4 cup croutons (optional)

For the Dressing (Simple Red Wine Vinaigrette):

 

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • Salt and black pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. In a small bowl or jar, whisk together the vinaigrette ingredients until well blended.

  2. In a large salad bowl, combine the lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, onion, carrots, and cheese.

  3. Drizzle with dressing and toss gently to coat.

  4. Sprinkle with croutons if using and serve immediately.

 



Notes

  • Add grilled chicken, tuna, or hard-boiled eggs for a protein boost.

  • Use store-bought dressing if you’re in a hurry—ranch, balsamic, or Italian all work great.

  • Swap cheddar for feta or Parmesan for a different flavor twist.
