Description

A cozy bread pudding infused with warm cinnamon and juicy apples, reminiscent of classic apple pie — perfect for chilly days or holiday desserts.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 6 cups day-old brioche or French bread, cubed
  • 2 large apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Butter for greasing the baking dish

Optional glaze:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together milk, cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Add the cubed bread and diced apples to the mixture, stirring to coat evenly. Let sit for 15 minutes to soak.
  4. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and drizzle melted butter over the top.
  5. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
  6. If using glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a small bowl until smooth. Drizzle over warm bread pudding before serving.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor contrast.
  • This dessert is delicious served warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
  • You can prepare the bread mixture ahead of time and refrigerate it overnight before baking.
