Description

This Christmas Puppy Chow, also known as “Reindeer Chow,” is a festive twist on the classic sweet snack. Crunchy cereal coated in chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar is dressed up with holiday sprinkles, M&Ms, and festive cheer. Perfect for gifting, parties, or munching by the tree!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 9 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup red and green M&Ms
  • 1/2 cup holiday sprinkles

Instructions

1. Prepare the Cereal:

  1. Place the Rice Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl and set aside.

2. Melt the Coating:

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter.
  2. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until the mixture is smooth and fully melted.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract.

3. Coat the Cereal:

  1. Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the cereal.
  2. Gently stir with a spatula until all the cereal pieces are evenly coated.

4. Add the Powdered Sugar:

  1. Transfer the coated cereal to a large resealable plastic bag or a large bowl with a lid.
  2. Add the powdered sugar, seal the bag (or cover the bowl), and shake vigorously until the cereal is well-coated.

5. Add the Festive Toppings:

  1. Spread the cereal mixture on a parchment-lined baking sheet to cool and set for 15 minutes.
  2. Once cooled, gently fold in the M&Ms and holiday sprinkles.

6. Serve or Store:

  1. Transfer the Christmas Puppy Chow to a festive serving bowl or divide it into gift bags for sharing.
  2. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.

Notes

  • Allergy-Friendly Option: Use sunflower seed butter instead of peanut butter for a nut-free version.
  • Customizable: Swap M&Ms for peppermint candies, mini marshmallows, or white chocolate chips for variety.
  • Gifting Idea: Package the Puppy Chow in holiday-themed bags or jars tied with ribbons for an easy and thoughtful gift.
