Description

These festive Christmas Popcorn Balls are a sweet and crunchy holiday treat made with marshmallows, popcorn, and colorful sprinkles. Perfect for gifting, parties, or a fun family activity!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 10 cups (80 g) popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels)
  • 4 tablespoons (60 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 package (10 oz / 280 g) mini marshmallows
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Red and green sprinkles or mini candies (optional)
  • Nonstick cooking spray or butter (for hands)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the popcorn:
    • Place the popped popcorn in a large mixing bowl. Remove any unpopped kernels.
  2. Make the marshmallow mixture:
    • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the mini marshmallows and stir constantly until melted and smooth.
    • Stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
  3. Combine with popcorn:
    • Pour the marshmallow mixture over the popcorn. Use a spatula to gently fold the mixture until the popcorn is evenly coated. Add sprinkles or mini candies if desired and mix lightly.
  4. Shape the popcorn balls:
    • Lightly grease your hands with nonstick spray or butter. Scoop about 1 cup of the coated popcorn and press it gently into a ball. Repeat with the remaining popcorn.
  5. Cool and serve:
    • Place the popcorn balls on a sheet of wax paper or parchment paper to cool and set. Once firm, they’re ready to enjoy or package as gifts.

Notes

  • Wrap individual popcorn balls in plastic wrap or store them in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Add crushed candy canes, white chocolate drizzle, or festive M&Ms for extra holiday flair.
  • Be careful when handling the warm marshmallow mixture to avoid burns.
