Christmas Peppermints are classic, sweet, and refreshing candies that melt in your mouth. Made with just a few simple ingredients, these festive peppermint treats are perfect for holiday parties, gift-giving, or enjoying as a seasonal snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (500g) powdered sugar, plus extra for dusting
  • 4 oz (115g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract (or more to taste)
  • Red and green food coloring
  • Granulated sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  • Make the Dough:

    • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
    • Gradually add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, mixing until combined and a soft dough forms.
    • Add the peppermint extract and mix well.
  • Divide and Color the Dough:

    • Divide the dough into three equal portions.
    • Leave one portion white, and tint the other portions with red and green food coloring. Knead the coloring into each portion until evenly distributed.
  • Shape the Peppermints:

    • Dust your work surface lightly with powdered sugar.
    • Roll each portion of dough into small balls, about 1/2 inch in diameter.
    • Flatten each ball slightly with a fork to create a classic peppermint shape.
  • Coat with Granulated Sugar:

    • Roll each peppermint in granulated sugar, coating evenly.
  • Let the Peppermints Set:

    • Place the candies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them air dry for 2-3 hours, or until firm to the touch.
  • Serve:

    • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Adjust flavor: Add more peppermint extract for a stronger flavor, or use vanilla extract for a milder taste.
  • Shape it up: You can use small cookie cutters to create festive shapes like stars, trees, or candy canes.
  • Add sparkle: Dust the candies with edible glitter for an extra festive touch.
