Instructions
Make the Cake:
- Preheat & Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or bundt pan.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In another large bowl, beat the sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vegetable oil until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange juice.
- Combine: Add half of the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, then mix in the buttermilk. Add the remaining dry ingredients and stir until just combined (do not overmix).
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the Glaze:
- Heat the Cream: In a small saucepan, heat heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer (do not boil).
- Melt the Chocolate: Pour the warm cream over the chocolate chips in a bowl. Let sit for 1–2 minutes, then stir until smooth.
- Add Flavor: Stir in butter, orange zest, and orange juice until glossy. Let cool slightly before glazing.
Assemble:
- Glaze the Cake: Pour the warm glaze over the cooled cake, letting it drip down the sides.
- Serve & Enjoy: Let the glaze set for about 15 minutes, then slice and enjoy!
