Scale
- 1 pound chicken tenders or chicken breasts cut into strips
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional for extra crunch)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Place chicken in a bowl with buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (up to overnight).
- In a shallow dish, mix flour, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and cayenne.
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove chicken from buttermilk and dredge in the flour mixture, pressing to coat well.
- Fry chicken tenders in batches for 4-5 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
Notes
- For a baked version, spray coated tenders with oil and bake at 425°F for 20 minutes, flipping halfway.
- Serve with honey mustard, ranch, or BBQ sauce for dipping.
- Double dredging (dipping twice in buttermilk and flour) makes extra crispy tenders.
