Description
Chicken Jalfrezi is a popular Indian curry dish made with marinated chicken stir-fried with bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, and spices for a rich, flavorful, and mildly spicy meal.

- 1 lb boneless chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch piece of ginger, minced
- 2 green chilies, sliced (optional)
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt, to taste
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until lightly browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add onions, garlic, and ginger. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- Add the bell peppers and cook for another 2-3 minutes until slightly tender.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes and green chilies (if using), and cook until the tomatoes break down slightly.
- Add cumin, coriander, turmeric, garam masala, chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Return the cooked chicken to the pan and stir to coat with the spice mixture. Cook for another 5-7 minutes to blend flavors.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, marinate the chicken in yogurt and spices for 30 minutes before cooking.
- Adjust the chili to your preferred spice level.
- This dish can be made ahead and reheated for even better flavor the next day.
