Description

Chicken Flautas are crispy, rolled tortillas filled with seasoned shredded chicken and cheese, then fried or baked to golden perfection. A delicious Mexican-inspired appetizer or main dish.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/4 cup salsa or enchilada sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 small flour or corn tortillas
  • Oil for frying or brushing (if baking)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine shredded chicken, cheese, salsa, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Warm the tortillas slightly to make them pliable.
  3. Spoon 2-3 tablespoons of the chicken mixture onto the lower third of each tortilla and roll tightly.
  4. Secure with a toothpick if necessary.
  5. For frying: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry flautas seam-side down until golden brown, turning as needed (about 2-3 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels.
  6. For baking: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place flautas seam-side down on a baking sheet, brush lightly with oil, and bake for 18–20 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  7. Serve hot with guacamole, sour cream, or salsa.

Notes

  • Use rotisserie chicken for quick prep.
  • Corn tortillas give a more authentic flavor, but flour tortillas are easier to roll and fry.
  • Can be frozen before or after cooking for future meals.
