Description

These Chicken Avocado Burgers are a delicious fusion of lean ground chicken and creamy avocado, resulting in a moist and flavorful patty. Perfect for a healthy lunch or dinner, they can be grilled or pan-fried and are sure to become a family favorite!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken Avocado Patties:

  • 1 pound (450g) ground chicken
  • 1 ripe avocado, diced
  • 1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs (use almond meal for a gluten-free option)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely chopped (optional, for added heat)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the Chipotle Yogurt Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 teaspoons adobo sauce (from canned chipotle peppers)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

For Serving:

  • 4 whole-grain hamburger buns
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Additional avocado slices (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken Avocado Patties:

    • In a large bowl, gently combine the ground chicken, diced avocado, panko breadcrumbs, minced garlic, chopped jalapeño (if using), salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined; overmixing can make the patties tough.
    • Form the mixture into four equal-sized patties, about 1/2-inch thick.
  2. Cook the Patties:

    • Grilling Method: Preheat the grill to medium heat (about 375°F or 190°C). Lightly oil the grill grates. Grill the patties for 5-6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
    • Stovetop Method: Heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 5-6 minutes per side, or until fully cooked through.
  3. Prepare the Chipotle Yogurt Sauce:

    • In a small bowl, mix together the plain Greek yogurt, adobo sauce, and salt until smooth. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
  4. Assemble the Burgers:

    • Toast the hamburger buns lightly, if desired.
    • Spread a generous amount of the chipotle yogurt sauce on the bottom half of each bun.wellplated.com
    • Place the cooked chicken avocado patty on top, followed by lettuce leaves, sliced tomatoes, and additional avocado slices, if desired.
    • Cover with the top half of the bun.
  5. Serve:

    • Serve the burgers warm, accompanied by your favorite side dishes like sweet potato fries or a fresh salad.

Notes

  • Variations: For a spicier kick, add more chopped jalapeño or a dash of hot sauce to the patty mixture.
  • Cheese Option: Add a slice of your favorite cheese, such as pepper jack or cheddar, melting it over the patty during the last minute of cooking.
  • Storage: Leftover patties can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat thoroughly before serving.
