Scale
- 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 1/2 cups (150g) seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1 cup (100g) grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Vegetable oil (for frying) or cooking spray (for baking)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Cheese Sticks:
- Cut each mozzarella stick into 3 equal pieces. Place them in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
-
Set Up the Breading Station:
- In one shallow bowl, place the flour.
- In a second bowl, beat the eggs.
- In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt.
-
Bread the Cheese Bites:
- Dip each frozen cheese piece into the flour, shaking off the excess.
- Dip into the beaten eggs, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating for a thicker crust.
- Place the coated cheese bites on a baking sheet and freeze for an additional 15-20 minutes to prevent melting during cooking.
-
Cook the Cheese Bites:
- For Frying: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the cheese bites in batches for 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- For Baking: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the cheese bites on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Lightly spray with cooking spray and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
-
Serve:
- Serve hot with marinara sauce, ranch, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Make it spicy: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the breadcrumb mixture for a spicy kick.
- Double-coat for extra crunch: Dip the cheese bites twice in the egg and breadcrumb mixture for an extra crispy coating.
- Storage: Best enjoyed fresh, but you can refrigerate leftover bites for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for crispiness.
