Description

Cheesy Broccoli is a quick and comforting side dish made with tender broccoli florets smothered in a creamy, cheesy sauce. It’s a family-friendly way to enjoy more vegetables.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Steam or microwave broccoli until just tender, about 4–5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute, whisking constantly.
  3. Slowly whisk in milk and cook, stirring, until the mixture thickens, about 2–3 minutes.
  4. Reduce heat to low and stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  5. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
  6. Pour the cheese sauce over the cooked broccoli and toss to coat evenly. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use sharp cheddar for a more pronounced cheese flavor.
  • Add a pinch of nutmeg for depth in the cheese sauce.
  • Can be made ahead and reheated gently on the stovetop or microwave.
