Description

A soft and chewy Indian flatbread stuffed with melty cheese, perfect as a side dish or a delicious snack.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter or ghee
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella (or a mix with cheddar)
  • Water, as needed

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Add yogurt, milk, melted butter, and enough water to form a soft dough.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide into 6 equal pieces; rest for 10 minutes.
  6. Roll each ball into a small circle, add cheese to the center, fold and seal, then gently roll again into a 6-7 inch circle.
  7. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook naan until bubbles form and golden spots appear, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  8. Brush with melted butter or ghee and serve hot.

Notes

  • Mix mozzarella with cheddar for more flavor.
  • Add garlic or herbs for a variation.
  • Cook on a hot skillet or bake on a pizza stone for best results.
  • Cover dough while resting to prevent drying.
  • Reheat leftovers in a skillet or oven.
