Cheddar Duchess Potatoes are an elegant and flavorful side dish made from creamy mashed potatoes mixed with cheddar cheese, piped into beautiful shapes, and baked until golden and crisp on the outside.

- 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 large egg yolks
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Boil potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain well.
- Mash the potatoes until smooth. Stir in butter, heavy cream, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until fully combined.
- Let the mixture cool slightly, then beat in the egg yolks.
- Transfer potato mixture to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
- Pipe the potatoes into decorative mounds on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
- Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve warm.
Notes
- Make sure potatoes are completely dry after boiling to avoid a watery mixture.
- Use a strong piping bag or double-layer a regular one for easier piping.
- These can be made ahead and reheated in the oven before serving.
- Experiment with different cheeses like Gruyère or Parmesan for variation.
