Description

This Caprese Sandwich is a fresh and vibrant take on the classic Caprese salad, layered with juicy tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil on crusty bread. Finished with a drizzle of balsamic glaze and olive oil, it’s the perfect no-cook lunch, picnic sandwich, or light dinner.


Ingredients

  • 1 ciabatta roll or baguette (or 2 slices of crusty artisan bread)

  • 2-3 thick slices of fresh mozzarella

  • 2-3 slices of ripe tomato

  • Fresh basil leaves (about 5-6, or to taste)

  • 1-2 tsp olive oil

  • 1-2 tsp balsamic glaze or reduction

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Optional Add-Ons:

  • Arugula for extra greens

  • Pesto spread

  • Sliced avocado

  • Prosciutto for a non-vegetarian twist


Instructions

  1. Prep the Bread:
    Slice the roll or bread in half. Lightly toast if desired for extra crunch.

  2. Layer the Ingredients:
    Drizzle the cut sides of the bread with olive oil. Layer mozzarella, tomato, and basil leaves. Season with a little salt and pepper.

  3. Drizzle with Balsamic:
    Drizzle balsamic glaze over the top layer before closing the sandwich.

  4. Assemble & Serve:
    Close the sandwich and gently press together. Slice and serve immediately.


Notes

  • Use high-quality, fresh ingredients for the best flavor—ripe tomatoes and fresh mozzarella make all the difference.

  • If packing for lunch, assemble just before eating or layer basil between tomato and cheese to prevent sogginess.

 

  • You can make it into a panini by grilling it in a press until the cheese is melty and the bread is crispy.
