Description

This hearty and comforting cabbage beef bake combines tender cabbage, seasoned ground beef, and a savory tomato sauce, all topped with melted cheese. It’s an easy one-dish meal that’s perfect for busy weeknights or a cozy family dinner.

Ingredients

Units Scale

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 small head of cabbage, chopped (about 6 cups)
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, with juices
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the Ground Beef:
    • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Sauté the Aromatics:
    • Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the Cabbage:
    • Stir in the chopped cabbage. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage begins to soften.
  5. Prepare the Sauce:
    • Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine. Simmer for 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  6. Assemble the Bake:
    • Transfer the beef and cabbage mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread evenly and top with shredded cheese.
  7. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Serve:
    • Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!

Notes

  • For a low-carb option, omit the diced tomatoes and reduce the tomato sauce slightly.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a bit of heat.
