Ingredients
Units
Scale
- 4 cups mini pretzel twists
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- Optional: Sea salt flakes for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Make the Toffee Mixture: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir continuously until the mixture begins to bubble. Once bubbling, let it cook for 3-4 minutes without stirring.
- Add Vanilla and Baking Soda: Remove the saucepan from heat, then carefully stir in the vanilla extract and baking soda. The mixture will foam up slightly—this is normal and helps create a light texture in the toffee.
- Coat the Pretzels: Place the pretzels in a large mixing bowl. Pour the hot toffee mixture over the pretzels and toss until they’re evenly coated.
- Bake: Spread the coated pretzels in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the toffee is set and the pretzels are lightly caramelized.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle with sea salt flakes if desired. Let the pretzels cool completely on the baking sheet before breaking apart and serving.
Notes
- Store cooled pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
- For a festive twist, drizzle with melted chocolate after cooling.
