Description

British sausage rolls are a beloved savory snack made with flaky puff pastry wrapped around seasoned sausage meat. Perfect for parties, picnics, or as a hearty afternoon treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 oz sausage meat or 4 pork sausages, casings removed
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • All-purpose flour, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, combine sausage meat, breadcrumbs, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface into a rectangle and cut in half lengthwise to create two long strips.
  4. Divide sausage mixture into two logs and place down the center of each strip.
  5. Fold the pastry over the sausage and seal the edges with a fork.
  6. Cut each log into 4 equal rolls and place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
  7. Brush with beaten egg and score the tops with a sharp knife.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden and cooked through.
  9. Cool slightly before serving. Best served warm.

Notes

  • Add a bit of Dijon mustard inside the pastry for extra flavor.
  • You can make mini versions for party appetizers.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge and reheat in the oven for best texture.
