Description

These Breakfast Pigs in a Blanket are a fun and easy morning twist on the classic! Juicy breakfast sausages are wrapped in fluffy pancake batter or buttery crescent rolls, then baked or cooked until golden brown. Perfect for kids and a great grab-and-go breakfast!

Ingredients

Scale

Option 1: Crescent Roll Version

  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 fully cooked breakfast sausages (pork, turkey, or chicken)
  • 1 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional, for flavor)

Option 2: Pancake Batter Version

  • 1 cup pancake mix
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 8 fully cooked breakfast sausages
  • Cooking spray or butter (for greasing the pan)

Instructions

Crescent Roll Version (Baked)

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Wrap the Sausages: Unroll the crescent dough and separate into triangles. Roll each sausage in a triangle, starting from the wide end.
  3. Bake: Place on a baking sheet seam-side down. Brush with melted butter and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  4. Serve: Drizzle with maple syrup or serve with mustard, ketchup, or honey butter!

Pancake Batter Version (Skillet or Air Fryer)

  1. Make the Pancake Batter: In a bowl, whisk together pancake mix, milk, egg, and vanilla. Let rest for 5 minutes.
  2. Heat the Pan: Lightly grease a skillet with butter or cooking spray over medium heat.
  3. Coat the Sausages: Dip each sausage in the batter, coating evenly.
  4. Cook:
    • Skillet: Cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
    • Air Fryer: Preheat to 375°F, place dipped sausages in the basket, and cook for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway.
  5. Serve: Enjoy with maple syrup, jam, or powdered sugar!

Notes

  • Make it cheesy! Add a slice of cheddar or American cheese before rolling.
  • Healthier Option: Use whole wheat crescent rolls or turkey sausages.
  • Meal Prep: Freeze leftovers for up to 2 months and reheat in the oven or air fryer.
