Scale
- 1 cup (240 ml) freshly brewed coffee
- 2 tbsp (15 g) cocoa powder or 1 oz (30 g) melted dark chocolate
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) peppermint schnapps (or adjust to taste)
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) coffee liqueur (e.g., Kahlúa, optional)
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) heavy cream or milk (optional, for creaminess)
- 1–2 tsp (5–10 g) granulated sugar or sweetener (optional)
For garnish:
- Whipped cream
- Crushed candy canes or peppermint candies
- Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder
Instructions
1. Prepare the mocha base:
- In a mug, whisk the cocoa powder (or melted chocolate) with a splash of the hot coffee until smooth. Add the remaining coffee and stir to combine.
2. Add the booze:
- Stir in the peppermint schnapps and coffee liqueur, if using. Add heavy cream or milk for extra richness, and sweeten to taste.
3. Garnish:
- Top with a generous dollop of whipped cream. Sprinkle with crushed candy canes, chocolate shavings, or a dusting of cocoa powder for a festive touch.
4. Serve:
- Serve immediately, sipping your way to holiday cheer!
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, replace peppermint schnapps with peppermint extract (start with 1/4 tsp and adjust to taste) and omit the coffee liqueur.
- Swap the heavy cream for dairy-free alternatives like almond or oat milk for a vegan version.
- Adjust the chocolate and peppermint proportions to suit your taste.
