Description

This Black Bean Burger Recipe is a hearty, flavorful, and protein-packed plant-based alternative to traditional burgers. Perfect for vegetarians and meat-lovers alike, these patties are easy to make and ideal for grilling or pan-frying.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 (15 oz) cans black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1 egg (or flax egg for vegan)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mash black beans with a fork or potato masher, leaving some texture.
  2. Add breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, cilantro, egg, and spices. Mix until well combined. If mixture is too wet, add more breadcrumbs; if too dry, add a splash of water or olive oil.
  3. Form mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side, or until browned and heated through.
  5. Serve on buns with your favorite toppings like avocado, lettuce, tomato, or chipotle mayo.

Notes

  • Make the patties ahead and refrigerate or freeze for easy meal prep.
  • Can be grilled on well-oiled foil for a smoky flavor.
  • Swap breadcrumbs with oat flour for a gluten-free version.
