Description

Biscuits and Gravy is a classic Southern breakfast featuring fluffy homemade biscuits smothered in a rich, creamy sausage gravy. Comfort food at its best!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 8 homemade or store-bought biscuits

Sausage Gravy:

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare biscuits according to recipe or package instructions.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned and crumbled. Do not drain.
  3. Sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage and stir to coat evenly. Cook for 1–2 minutes to eliminate raw flour taste.
  4. Gradually pour in milk while stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Add salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Cook until thickened, about 5–7 minutes, stirring frequently.
  6. Split warm biscuits and spoon sausage gravy over the top. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use whole milk for the richest gravy, or substitute with 2% if preferred.
  • Make ahead and reheat gravy gently with a splash of milk.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste and add herbs like thyme or sage for extra flavor.
