Scale
- 8 homemade or store-bought biscuits
Sausage Gravy:
- 1 lb breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare biscuits according to recipe or package instructions.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned and crumbled. Do not drain.
- Sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage and stir to coat evenly. Cook for 1–2 minutes to eliminate raw flour taste.
- Gradually pour in milk while stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Bring to a simmer.
- Add salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Cook until thickened, about 5–7 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Split warm biscuits and spoon sausage gravy over the top. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Use whole milk for the richest gravy, or substitute with 2% if preferred.
- Make ahead and reheat gravy gently with a splash of milk.
- Adjust seasoning to taste and add herbs like thyme or sage for extra flavor.
