Description

These Birthday Sugar Cookies are soft, chewy, and bursting with colorful sprinkles! With a buttery vanilla flavor and a slightly crisp edge, they’re easy to make and guaranteed to bring a smile to anyone’s face. No chilling required – just mix, bake, and celebrate!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup rainbow sprinkles (jimmies work best)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).

  3. Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.

  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.

  6. Fold in the sprinkles.

  7. Scoop dough into 1 ½ tablespoon-sized balls and place on the prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.

  8. Bake for 9–11 minutes, or until edges are just lightly golden. Centers will still look soft – that’s perfect!

  9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra birthday flair, top each cookie with more sprinkles before baking.

  • These freeze well both before and after baking.

  • Want a fun twist? Stir in white chocolate chips or a splash of almond extract!
