Description

Beer Cheese Dip is a rich and creamy appetizer made with sharp cheddar cheese, beer, and spices. It’s perfect for dipping soft pretzels, chips, or veggies and ideal for game day or parties.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup beer (lager or ale works best)
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes to form a roux.
  3. Slowly whisk in the beer and milk, stirring constantly until smooth and slightly thickened, about 3–4 minutes.
  4. Stir in Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper if using.
  5. Reduce heat to low and add the shredded cheddar cheese a handful at a time, stirring until melted and smooth.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve warm with pretzels, chips, or vegetables.

Notes

  • Use a flavorful beer like a lager or pale ale for best results.
  • For a smoother dip, grate your own cheese instead of using pre-shredded.
  • Keep warm in a slow cooker or fondue pot for parties.
