Description

BBQ Chicken Mac and Cheese is a rich and comforting dish that combines creamy macaroni and cheese with tangy barbecue chicken for a flavorful twist on a classic comfort food.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (plus more for topping)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk and cream. Cook until thickened, about 3–5 minutes.
  4. Stir in cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted and smooth.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Add cooked macaroni and stir to coat evenly in the cheese sauce.
  7. In a bowl, mix shredded chicken with BBQ sauce.
  8. Gently fold BBQ chicken into the mac and cheese or serve on top as a layer.
  9. Drizzle additional BBQ sauce over top and garnish with green onions if desired.

Notes

  • Use rotisserie chicken for quick prep.
  • Try smoked gouda or pepper jack for added flavor variations.
  • Bake for 15 minutes at 375°F if a baked version is preferred.
