Ingredients

Scale

For the Donut Holes:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional, but enhances flavor!)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating: (Optional but delicious!)

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

For the Glaze: (Optional alternative to cinnamon sugar)

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Batter

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix mashed banana, egg, milk, vanilla, and melted butter until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined (do not overmix!).

Step 2: Fry the Donut Holes

  1. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Using a small cookie scoop or spoon, drop 1-inch rounds of batter into the hot oil.
  3. Fry for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

Step 3: Coat or Glaze

Option 1: Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  1. In a bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon.
  2. Roll warm donut holes in the mixture until fully coated.

Option 2: Vanilla Glaze

  1. In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Dip each donut hole into the glaze, then place on a wire rack to set.

  • Serve warm for the best taste!
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat in the microwave for 10-15 seconds or in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for 5 minutes.
