- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 cup cornstarch (for a light crispy coating)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Honey Garlic Sauce
- 1/3 cup honey
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium recommended)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (or rice vinegar)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 2 teaspoons water (to thicken)
For Garnish
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped
Instructions
1. Prep & Sear the Chicken
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- Pat the chicken dry with paper towels and season with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- Lightly coat the chicken in cornstarch, shaking off any excess.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Sear the chicken for 2–3 minutes per side until lightly golden (it will finish cooking in the oven).
2. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together honey, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
- In a small bowl, mix 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 2 teaspoons water and stir it into the sauce.
- Simmer for 1–2 minutes until slightly thickened.
3. Bake the Chicken
- Place the seared chicken in the prepared baking dish.
- Pour the honey garlic sauce over the chicken, making sure it’s evenly coated.
- Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- Spoon extra sauce over the chicken before serving.
4. Serve & Garnish
- Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
- Serve hot with steamed rice, roasted veggies, or noodles.
Notes
- Swap chicken breasts for boneless thighs for a juicier texture.
- Use maple syrup instead of honey for a different sweetness.
- Want it crispier? Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes, then broil for 2–3 minutes to caramelize the sauce.
