Description

Baked Beans are a classic comfort food made with tender beans simmered in a sweet and smoky sauce. Perfect as a hearty side dish for BBQs, picnics, or any casual meal.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups cooked navy beans (or 2 cans, drained and rinsed)
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook bacon until slightly crisp. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a large bowl, combine ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir in the bacon and onion mixture, then fold in the beans.
  4. Transfer to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish or Dutch oven and cover with foil.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake an additional 15 minutes, or until thick and bubbly.
  6. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, omit bacon and sauté onions in olive oil.
  • Great made a day ahead—flavors deepen as they sit.
  • Use smoked paprika or chipotle for added depth.
