For the Crust (optional if using store-bought):
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3–4 tbsp ice water
For the Filling:
- 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or Gruyère work well)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups half-and-half (or equal parts milk and cream)
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley or chives (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Crust (if making from scratch):
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in the butter with a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Form into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface and press it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim the edges and refrigerate while preparing the filling.
- Blind Bake the Crust (optional but recommended):
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line the crust with parchment paper and fill it with pie weights or dried beans.
- Bake for 10 minutes, then remove the weights and bake for another 5 minutes. Let it cool slightly.
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, salt, pepper, and nutmeg (if using).
- Sprinkle the bacon and shredded cheese evenly over the bottom of the crust.
- Assemble the Quiche:
- Pour the egg mixture over the bacon and cheese. Use a fork to gently distribute the filling evenly.
- Bake the Quiche:
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 35-40 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden.
- Let the quiche cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Sprinkle with chopped parsley or chives if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- You can add sautéed onions, mushrooms, or spinach for extra flavor and texture.
- Substitute heavy cream for an even richer filling, or use milk for a lighter option.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
