- 2 large artichokes
- 1 lemon, halved
- 2 cloves garlic, smashed
- 2 bay leaves
- Salt, to taste
- 1/4 cup melted butter or your favorite dipping sauce
Instructions
- Fill a large pot with about 2 inches of water. Add lemon halves, smashed garlic, bay leaves, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil.
- Meanwhile, trim the artichokes by cutting off the top inch and snipping the sharp tips from the leaves. Trim the stem if needed.
- Place a steaming basket or insert into the pot and add the artichokes, stem-side up.
- Cover and steam for 30-40 minutes, or until the outer leaves can be easily pulled off and the base is tender.
- Remove artichokes from the pot and allow to cool slightly.
- Serve warm with melted butter or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- To eat, pull off leaves, dip the base in sauce, and scrape the soft flesh with your teeth.
- When you reach the center, remove the fuzzy choke to enjoy the tender heart.
- Leftover artichokes can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
