Scale
For the Filling:
- 2 cups (300g) diced apples (peeled and cored)
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp water
For the Dough:
- 1 can (16 oz/454g) refrigerated biscuit dough (8 biscuits)
For the Coating:
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Prepare the Apple Filling:
- In a medium skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, sugar, and cinnamon. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender.
- In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water. Stir this slurry into the apple mixture and cook for 1-2 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Prepare the Dough:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Separate the biscuit dough into 8 pieces. Flatten each biscuit into a 4-inch circle.
- Fill and Seal the Bombs:
- Place a tablespoon of the cooled apple filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the edges up and over the filling, pinching to seal tightly. Roll into a ball and place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake:
- Bake the bombs for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Coat the Bombs:
- In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon for the coating.
- Brush the baked bombs with melted butter, then roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.
- Serve:
- Serve warm as is, or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or caramel drizzle for an extra indulgent treat!
Notes
- For a shortcut, use canned apple pie filling instead of making your own. Chop the filling into smaller pieces for easier assembly.
- These bombs are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven before serving.
- Add a pinch of nutmeg or allspice to the filling for a spiced twist.
