Description

These Apple Fries are a sweet and crispy treat perfect for dessert or a fun snack. Tender apple slices are coated in a cinnamon-sugar mixture, fried to golden perfection, and served with a creamy caramel or vanilla dipping sauce. Easy to make and impossible to resist!

Ingredients

Units Scale

(Serves 4-6)

  • 4 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup sparkling water or milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (for coating)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Optional Dipping Sauce:

  • Caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt

Instructions

1. Prepare the Apples:

  1. Peel and core the apples, then cut them into thick slices or sticks (about 1/2 inch thick).
  2. Pat the apple slices dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.

2. Make the Batter:

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Gradually whisk in the sparkling water or milk until the batter is smooth and thick.

3. Heat the Oil:

  1. In a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  2. If you don’t have a thermometer, test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; it should sizzle and float.

4. Fry the Apple Slices:

  1. Dip each apple slice into the batter, letting the excess drip off.
  2. Carefully place the battered slices into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  3. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
  4. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain.

5. Coat in Cinnamon Sugar:

  1. In a shallow bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon together.
  2. Toss the warm apple fries in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.

6. Serve:

  1. Serve the apple fries warm with a side of caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping.

Notes

  • For Extra Crispiness: Use cold sparkling water in the batter to create a light, crispy coating.
  • Air Fryer Option: For a lighter version, air-fry the apple slices at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Storage: Best enjoyed fresh, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for crispiness.
